Weekly Price Tracking
In 2005 DTC began development of an internet-based weekly price tracking system. The purpose was to provide clients with consistent pricing information, readily accessible and easily analyzed within minutes.
However, too much information can be a hindrance, so to make this concept work we had to overcome several hurdles:
- It must be quicker than clients manually checking websites themselves
- Model names must be consistent for cross-analysis to work
- Information sources must be published to represent “real” on-line pricing by both web-only resellers and ‘clicks and mortar' channels, thereby reflecting the range of reseller activities and pricing structures
- The sample frame must be large enough to accurately represent “real” pricing
As a result of these requirements, the weekly pricing data sets now consist of the following:
- Sample frames covering 100s of websites each week
- In major categories (such as LCD TV), this means more than 75,000 prices captured each week Worldwide
- Each model is cross checked against a master database to ensure consistent naming conventions
- Each source website is published - accessible directly from the data set and can be easily verified
- The Analyzer Desktop software enables clients to update each pricing data file with 1 button click, meaning the information is accessed more quickly and easily than manual website checking allows
- This enables you to spend more time on value-add activities!!
